A weekly round-up of all the latest global health research from MSF projects and beyond

13 September 2024

Registration for the MSF Scientific Days – Asia 2024 conference on 25 October is now open! This year, MSF collaborates with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital to present research, innovation, and experiences from humanitarian programmes across Asia.

eClinicalMedicine warns that infants born to mothers with multidrug-resistant or rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (TB) are at a higher risk of developing TB if the mother's adherence to treatment or antiretroviral therapy is suboptimal. The same journal finds migrants in Europe are at higher risk of acquiring resistant bacteria, particularly gram-negative bacteria, within community settings such as refugee camps and detention centres.

The Lancet Global Health assesses a hospital intervention aimed at enhancing medical oxygen services for neonates and children in Uganda. PLOS Global Public Health identifies heat waves as a risk factor for diarrhoea hospitalisation in Dhaka, Bangladesh, particularly during the pre-monsoon summer season. The team finds a 7% increase in diarrhoea hospitalisations for all ages but a 14% increase among children under 5 years of age. Finally, The BMJ highlights the various impacts experienced by children in conflict zones and urges for a renewed global commitment to the distinct needs and rights of children in crisis.

Best regards,
